Bringing an extra layer of life to the Bear With Me Podcast in their Cape Town edition episode.
Bringing a podcast to life is more than just hitting record - it’s about capturing the energy, the atmosphere, and the moments that make conversations worth watching. I was brought onto the Bear With Me Podcast team to do exactly that - turning their standard podcast setup into something visually engaging. From scouting the best shots to planning seamless transitions between locations, I made sure every frame added a new layer of depth to their storytelling. And honestly? I had a blast doing it.
01/ TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Secured all extra filming and recording gear needed for two full days of shooting.
Timed and executed each shoot, keeping the flow natural but structured.
Directed on-the-go, ensuring each segment was visually strong and fit the narrative.
Captured all footage, from scenic shots at the V&A Waterfront to candid B-roll and deep-dive interviews.
Balanced dynamic, fast-paced clips with steady, intimate moments to enhance storytelling.
Reviewed and provided input on the video editing process to maintain consistency and quality.
Ensured all key moments were included and visually translated well into the final podcast episodes.
02/ WINS & HIGHLIGHTS
Worked closely with successful founders—soaking in valuable insights while filming.
Brought a creative vision to life alongside an incredible team.
Split responsibilities seamlessly—while I handled production, my friend took charge of sound and final edits.
03/ WHAT I LEARNT
More hands make light work. Bringing extra people to handle small tasks frees up creative space to focus on the bigger picture.
Check your equipment. Four times. No exceptions. We shot full interviews and podcast sessions only to realise later that no sound was recorded. Pain. Absolute pain.
Stalling security is an art. Sometimes, a well-timed conversation buys just enough time to get the perfect shot. Just don’t make it obvious.
